Ray is highly experienced in many methods of training having competed at Elite level for nearly 20 years. He uses his considerable knowledge to help a very diverse range of people across a number of different disciplines.
For example, he is currently advising some MMA fighters on their technique for the Octagon/Ring, celebrities on their training regimens, mums getting in shape after having children, and teaching Judo to children with special needs.
He is chairman and senior instructor at Wimbledon Judo Club and a senior instructor at the Budokwai. This is the oldest martial arts club in Europe and home to some of the greats of British Judo including Brian Jacks, Neil Adams, Dave Starbrook, Angelo Parisi and Tony Sweeny.
Ray is a British Judo Association (BJA) qualified Senior Club Coach and among a long list of top awards are the following:
- 6th Dan in Judo and Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
- Olympic Silver Medalist 1992 at Barcelona.
- Olympic Games Representative 1996
- European Silver medalist 1993
- Commonwealth Games Champion 1986, 1990
- Great Britain European Team representative 7 times
- British Open Champion 1990, 1993, 1994
- British Masters Champion 1985
- Paris Tournament Bronze medalist 3 times
