About Pilates
Pilates is an exercise method, designed to elongate, strengthen and restore the body to balance. Based upon an anatomical understanding of the body's muscular and skeletal systems, the Pilates teacher creates a comprehensive exercise programme for the client.
Osteopaths, physiotherapists and general practitioners recommend Pilates as one of the safest forms of exercise today. Pilates can be practised by just about everyone, regardless of age or fitness level, and is beneficial for general fitness, specific health conditions and most of all for your overall well-being.
In general, it can:
- Improve posture, mobility and flexibility of the spine
- Deliver muscle tone and increase stability for the pelvis and shoulders
- Foster the health of joints through improved mobility
- Complement other training regimes for athletes
- Help to prevent injuries and assist injury rehabilitation
"Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit." - Joseph Pilates
